Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See
Bill Martin Jr. and Eric Carle
Why did I choose this story?
- I love this book
- Teaches children to listen (1st step of phonological awareness!)
- Introduces colors, animals, rhyming, sequencing, vocabulary, math, science, rhythm, rhyming, shapes, and...
- Leads way to creative bookmaking
- Is also a song
- Has beautiful, colorful, and yet simple artwork
- Is SUPER-DOOPER fun for children to read and re-read over and over and over and over and over again
Hi Lois,
ReplyDeleteI love that you chose a book that has multiple ways that the children can learn. I love books that do way more than just tell a story.
I will certainly be looking for this book.

This book always makes me think "Kindergarten" because there are so many things you can do with this book beyond just reading it. It is also fun to see children learn to read this book, and proudly share it with friends and family.
ReplyDeleteCaroline (Walden University)
Hi Stephanie and Caroline!
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting on my blog! This is a definite not-to-miss book, Stephanie. There are, without a doubt, a zillion ways to "use" this book in your classroom.
And Caroline, you might not believe this, but in our school, we introduced this book to our infants and toddlers, continuing it with our preschool children. It was a great book that would grow side-by-side our children. I can easily see how it could be used in Kindergarten, too. We did so much with this story in a developmentally age appropriate way for each class. We even corresponded with the authors via mail (real, old fashioned mail), and the children loved getting mail back from the authors. Great experience!
I use this book in my bookmaking workshop, because I designed a potatoe chip can story to go with the animals in the story. It's super fun!
Looking forward to continuing to share with both of you!
Lois
Lois,
ReplyDeleteI love any Eric Carle book! In August of each program year I love hearing the new three year olds repeating with the teachers, "brown bear, brown bear". A perennial favorite.
Hey Joedi!
ReplyDeleteWhat is the address of your blog? I cannot seem to find it. Thanks...
You won't believe this, but a few years ago, Eric Carle came to our school and read to my PreK children. It was the most unbelieveable experience ever. I still get goose bumps when I think about it! Thanks for sharing.
